In Kenya, many mothers face the challenge of returning to work as early as three months after giving birth. This transition can be particularly difficult, especially when it comes to ensuring that their babies’ health and nutritional needs are met in their absence.

For mothers in lower-income communities, this challenge is further compounded by limited access to sufficient meals, which can negatively impact their breast milk supply. This often leads to supplementation with alternatives such as porridge or glucose water. While these may temporarily fill a baby’s tummy, they fall short of meeting the essential nutritional needs for proper growth and development.

Another concern is the risk posed by unsanitary or contaminated water used to prepare these alternatives. Such practices can expose infants to serious health issues, including infections and malnutrition, which can significantly hinder their growth and development milestones.

Recognizing these critical challenges, we partnered with a **local community center** to provide a solution: **breast pumps for moms who need them the most**. By equipping mothers with this essential tool, we empower them to safely express and store breast milk for their babies. This ensures that their little ones continue to receive the nutrients they need for healthy development, even in their mother’s absence.

The breast pumps not only support the baby’s nutrition but also give working mothers peace of mind, knowing their child’s health isn’t compromised while they are away. This small yet impactful initiative is making a tangible difference in the lives of these mothers and their children, helping them thrive and hit their developmental milestones.

We were able to purchase some pumps that the centre can give the mons and when they were done with hem, they are able to return them so another mom could do the same.
